Gräfelfing/Munich, August 1st, 2023 – The Mader family is strengthening its sustainable commitment by investing in the cleantech start-up CAPHENIA.
CAPHENIA’s technology makes it possible to convert bio-methane, CO₂, water and sustainably generated electricity into synthesis gas. This is used to produce renewable fuels and other chemical products such as carbon, an essential raw material for the brake pad industry. CAPHENIA’s technology requires six times less electricity compared to conventional processes and thus enables the competitive production of the end products mentioned.
Florian Mader, managing partner of Richard Anton KG, explains the investment as follows: “CAPHENIA’s technology represents a revolutionary breakthrough, allowing to convert CO₂ into valuable raw materials. This crucial progress contributes to a more sustainable economy and to an active fight against climate change. We at Richard Anton KG also see the possible synergies of this technology in the production of future carbon products.”
Dr. Mark Misselhorn, CEO of CAPHENIA, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership with Richard Anton KG and said: “The collaboration with Richard Anton KG is an important milestone for us. The commitment to sustainability and impressive experience in carbon production make Richard Anton KG an ideal partner for CAPHENIA. We look forward to working together on the future of sustainable carbon production.
Richard Anton KG has already proven in the past that pushing innovation is a priority. In the 1980s, the company revolutionized the brake pad industry by introducing asbestos-free materials. With this investment in CAPHENIA, Richard Anton KG emphasizes its ongoing commitment to sustainable solutions and innovations.

About Caphenia:
“Turning CO₂ into fuel” – The cleantech start-up CAPHENIA is aiming at shaping the CO₂-neutral future of mobility by providing sustainable fuels at competitive prices. Bio-methane is broken down into the components carbon and hydrogen using the specifically controllable CAPHENIA 3-in-1 zone reactor and the unique plasma process. This highly efficient technology creates a synthesis gas that can be processed into renewable fuels and other chemical products without any by-products or energy losses. The reactors are designed for scalability and enabling the production of large quantities within short intervals. In addition to the production of renewable fuels, including renewable diesel for heavy-duty and rail transport, CAPHENIA focuses on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The company is based in the Frankfurt House of Logistics & Mobility (HOLM) and in Bernau am Chiemsee. The CAPHENIA vision is supported by cooperation partners such as MAN Energy Solutions SE, the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, the German Aerospace Center and other renowned investment and development partners. It is also supported by leading industry and business representatives, well-known stakeholders such as Kay Kratky, Simone Menne and Christoph Franz as well as other international partners.
